Methodology

One model. Two views.

Raw BPM 2.0 supplies the box-score estimate. hussEyquation stabilizes small samples, accounts modestly for role size, and keeps cumulative season value separate.

Measurement era · Raw BPM 2.0 box-score model

01

Calculate Raw BPM

Published position- and role-aware BPM 2.0 coefficients estimate box-score impact before the final team-performance adjustment.

02

Stabilize low samples

hussEyquation adapts Myers’ published game-level low-minute rule below 450 minutes. Established samples are unchanged.

03

Rank within the season

The stabilized result is mapped against the current season's 1,000+ minute reference, then receives a bounded MPG adjustment: none at 30+ MPG and at most 20% at 12 MPG or less. Rate scores are not comparable across seasons.

04

Measure season value

Season Value subtracts the 25th-percentile stabilized Raw BPM of that same reference group, then applies the difference to estimated possessions. This is a season baseline, not a true replacement-player estimate.

Current model boundary: the headline score is built from box-score production. It does not yet separately attribute offense and defense or incorporate lineup on/off context, opponent strength, tracking-based gravity, or playoff leverage. Those remain research extensions—not hidden inputs.
